The World’s Constable
The issue that this political cartoon is about is Roosevelt
Corollary. The cartoonist’s message is that through Teddy Roosevelt’s policies,
the United States was setting itself up to be the World’s Constable (policeman).
In the political cartoon, Teddy Roosevelt towers over all the other countries. He
looks ready to use his new diplomacy like a club. Others might see this cartoon
and think that it would be a good thing for the United States to fight the
battles of other countries, and to keep the world at peace. The techniques that
the cartoonist used to make it persuasive are labeling, and symbolism. The
cartoon shows the labeling of the other countries, and it shows symbolism
because Teddy Roosevelt is shown in a Constable’s uniform with a club. The
cartoon supports my position on American Imperialism because the United States can
make certain countries mad by helping other countries.
